What is the Nurse Licensure Compact?
The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) is a multi-state nursing license agreement developed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN). A nurse residing and licensed in any of the NLC participating state may apply for a multi-state license. This license enables the nurse to practice in any other participating state without additional license applications or licensure fees.

As it sounds, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. is an organization whose primary membership includes the nursing boards for all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 4 United States territories. The NCSBN is a not-for-profit organization that provides its membership with a mechanism to jointly develop and improve regulatory guidelines for public safety, health, and welfare.
